Thanksgiving: Healthy Eating for the Holidays
The holiday season officially begins with Thanksgiving! While it is a time for feasting, gathering, and celebration, you can still practice healthy eating for the holidays without missing out on your favorite traditions:
Balance Your Plate: Aim to fill half your plate with colorful, nutrient-rich vegetables before adding traditional sides and mains.
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to support digestion and keep your energy levels steady.
Savor Every Bite: Eat mindfully and enjoy the time spent sharing meals with family and community.
We are deeply thankful for the privilege of caring for you and your family this year — wishing you a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season!
Honoring Service: Veterans Day
On Wednesday, November 11, we observe Veterans Day—a time to honor and remember all who have served. To our veteran patients and staff, MACT extends our deepest gratitude for your sacrifice, bravery, and dedication to our country.
We are proud to highlight our partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs through the VA Tribal Health Program, which supports all American Indian and Alaska Native Veterans. As a participant in this program, eligible Veterans can receive medical care at all MACT Health locations with costs covered by the VA, eliminating the need for pre-authorizations for most services.
We are deeply honored to support the health and well-being of our Veterans and their families. Thank you for your service today and every day!
Fall Back: Daylight Saving Time Ends (Nov 1)
Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 1! While gaining an extra hour of sleep is a welcome treat, time changes can sometimes disrupt your body's natural clock and energy levels.
Here are a few quick health tips to help you adjust smoothly:
Prioritize Rest: Keep a consistent bedtime routine to help your sleep schedule adapt naturally.
Catch the Sunlight: Spend time outdoors in the morning sunlight to help reset your internal body clock and boost your mood.
Stay Consistent: Keep your meal, exercise, and daily routine schedules consistent to ease the transition for your body.
Take care of yourself as the days grow shorter, and enjoy that extra hour of restful sleep!
Protect Your Vision: Managing Diabetes & Eye Health
November is National Diabetes & Diabetic Eye Disease Awareness Month. This is a dedicated time to focus on diabetes prevention, proactive management, and eye health. Diabetes disproportionately affects Indigenous communities, making early screening, routine A1C checks, and annual dilated eye exams vital parts of preventive care.
Taking small, daily steps can make a significant difference:
Choose Balanced Meals: Incorporate whole grains, lean proteins, and traditional nutrient-rich foods while lowering simple sugars.
Stay Active: Daily physical movement—such as a 30-minute brisk walk—helps regulate blood sugar levels.
Protect Your Vision: Schedule regular dilated eye exams to catch and prevent diabetic eye complications early.
Our care team is here to support your total health journey. Reach out today to schedule your routine screening or eye exam!
Breathe Easy: What to Know About Lung Health & Early Detection
November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month, an important time to talk about lung health, early detection, and the power of preventive care. Lung cancer remains one of the most common cancers, but early detection through routine low-dose CT screenings can save lives by catching changes long before symptoms begin.
Taking proactive steps can help protect your lung health:
Know Your Risk: Talk with your healthcare provider about your history, including exposure to commercial tobacco, radon, or secondhand smoke.
Prioritize Screenings: If you are a current or former smoker, ask your doctor if an annual lung cancer screening is right for you.
Seek Support: Take advantage of resources to help you or a loved one quit commercial tobacco.
We are dedicated to supporting your lifelong wellness. Contact your MACT provider today to discuss your lung health, ask about screening options, or connect with wellness support resources!
